Hello,
Welcome to my learning portfolio!
My name is Alanah VanCleve (pronounced uh-lane-uh, for those of you who don't know). I'm a soon-to-be graduate at the #HottestCollegeInAmerica, the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Health Sciences with a concentration in Behavior and Occupation studies, and a minor in Psychology. Like most college seniors, I'm still trying to find out what I want to do for the rest of my life, but following my August graduation, I hope to find a fulfilling, full-time career.
I grew up as an only child in the Greater Cincinnati area, in a small town called Monroe where everyone knows everyone. I went to high school with children of my parents' high school classmates, and my parents with the children of my grandparents' classmates, and so on. From the time I entered high school, it was evident that that cycle was going to continue. While some might enjoy that small-town America atmosphere, I felt stifled and became determined to break the cycle and get away from everything I had ever known. When I toured the University of Cincinnati, I knew I had found my home. Cincinnati is the complete opposite of Monroe - a large, metropolitan area, with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, and the people I met when I toured at UC resembled everything I wanted to be. They were high-achieving, confident, involved, as well as happy and proud to call this school their home.
Since I have come to UC and found my place, I have found I have a passion for serving others and helping others find their home, much like my role models helped me find mine. This passion was evident in my campus involvement. I am a member and was an ambassador for the University Honors Program, a loyal sorority sister, Serve Beyond Cincinnati trip participant, Fraternal Values Society member, and former Recruitment Guide and Recruitment Director for Formal Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment during my time as an undergraduate.
I believe most problems can be solved with the help of a cup of coffee and carbs, laughter is the best medicine, and that no one can be sad when eating Skyline Chili or Raising Cane's. I love animals more than the average person, and am a large advocate for zoos, animal shelters, and animal conservation efforts. My heart is and will always be in Cincinnati, but I dream of someday waking up to a beautiful beach outside my window.
